Rosacea

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a potentially life-disruptive blood vessel disorder that affects the face, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Affecting women and men, it typically begins after age 30 as redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead. Over time, redness often becomes ruddier and more persistent, and blood vessels may appear. Left untreated, pustules often develop, and in severe cases skin may swell and thicken.

Treatment Description

Rosacea Desc

Estetika Clinic recommends Pulsar IPL treatments for a wide variety of conditions including:

  • hair removal
  • rosacea
  • fine lines, crows feet and loss of elasticity
  • facial thread and spider veins
  • pigmented lesions
  • sun damaged skin
  • vascular lesions

Pulsar IPL can be used to treat a range of conditions with remarkable success. It is also used to treat conditions such as sun or age spots with excellent results.

Photo/ Skin Rejuvenation and collagen stimulation

This uses a series of IPL Laser treatments to help remove sun damage, stimulating new cell growth and increasing collagen production. Typically each photo rejuvenation treatment will reduce the skin’s age by 1-2 years per session so a course of 6 can reduce it by 10 years. Results are cumulative, with no down-time or after effects, so you could have a one-off treatment to freshen your skin for an important event or, 6 sessions could give you a visual reduction of up to 10 years in your skin’s tone and texture.

IPL for facial veins and rosacea (redness)

With IPL treatment the light is absorbed into the targeted blood vessels causing them to break down. There is little or no downtime, making this the perfect treatment to have in your lunch hour! Typically 3-4 sessions are required and you may need a ‘top up’ treatment from time to time.

IPL for age spots and freckles

If you have patches of pigment that are darker than the surrounding skin, they can be treated without affecting the rest of your skin colour. The light is absorbed into these patches and the melanocytes that cause the discolouration break up and disperse over a period of time. Rosacea Benefits

Benefits Of Treating Rosacea On Your Skin?

When rosacea affects your skin, treatment can help you feel better. Treating your skin can:

  • Prevent rosacea from worsening
  • Help you feel more comfortable
  • Improve your self-confidence and quality of life.

Treating your skin can prevent these problems.

Treating your rosacea may also improve your mental health. Many research studies have shown that the constant redness, acne-like breakouts, and other signs of rosacea can lower a person’s self-esteem. People often say that they feel embarrassed by their skin.  Some people say they try to avoid contact with other people as much as possible because they feel ashamed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Treatment varies for each rosacea type. Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and/or laser have been clinically proven to successfully reduce facial redness, flushing and broken veins.

They work by using light energy to target the problem capillaries in your skin. The heat generated destroys your problem blood vessels which your body then reabsorbs. The majority of patients can be successfully treated and also find that laser contributes to an improved skin appearance.

People with Papulo Pustula Rosacea (PPR) respond better to a combination of IPL/Laser and oral or topical antibiotics.

Ocular types need the expertise of an Ophthalmologist and Rhinophyma types needs the expertise of a plastic surgeon.

The number of treatments you require depends on the severity of your rosacea. However, because of the high specification of our IPL/ lasers, you’ll need fewer treatments with us than a clinic performing a similar procedure with inferior equipment.

The average is 4, but depending on the severity, it can take more. This will be discussed with you during the initial consultation.

The treatment doesn’t hurt although you may notice a sensation similar to the snap of an elastic band or a sting with each laser flash. It won’t disrupt your daily routine and you should be able to go back to work straight away with no obvious signs that you’ve had treatment.

You may have a little redness immediately after treatment but this will subside quickly. You need to wear sunscreen (min SPF 30) to protect your skin during the course of your treatment.

Depending on the severity of your rosacea, you could notice an improvement a few days after your initial treatment and the majority of the patients will respond well.

However the recommended number of treatments is 4 and this is for a reason. The veins causing your rosacea will be of different sizes and at different depths. Our lasers target these veins in layers and will remove different ones each treatment.

It is our experience that sufferers of mild to moderate rosacea should see a marked improvement in their symptoms after 4 treatments. If you need more treatments, it will take longer to see a marked change.
